Who are we?
Earth Harvest Farm, LLC is a small family farm located just outside
of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin providing good, clean, and fairly priced
food through our vegetable CSA program, farmers' markets, farm stand
sales, and wholesale accounts. The farm began in our family garden in
2006. This small half-acre garden was the inspriration for creating
a business plan and launching Earth Harvest Farm in 2007.
We started with 30 shares in 2008 on three acres, expanded to 65
in 2009 on six acres, with plans for 85 members for 2010. This
season our farm will include 1/2 acre of raspberries, 8 acres of
vegetables, 1 acre of sweet corn, and 4-5 acres for livestock and
cover crops.
Farm manager, Katie Bjorkman, 26, holds a BA in Ecological Agriculture
from New College of California and has worked on organic vegetable and
livestock farms. Katie's partner, Raul Sandoval, 27, takes care of the
finances and the livestock and is known for being our 'reality check'.
Jan Bjorkman, 55, is a UW-Extension Master Gardener and professional
musician and spends most of her time working on compost and soil
management. All Bjorkman, 59, is a professor of botany and
environmental science at North Park Univerisy and can most often be
found on the tractor or in the field with his favorite crop: sweet corn!
We hire two full time seasonal employees each year and utilize 15 work
trade shareholders.
The Farm
Located behind Grand Geneva between Lake Geneva and Lyons, Earth Harvest Farm
exists on three parcels of land. The land on which we grow our vegetables
hasn't been conventionally farmed for at least 15 years, which means our
soil is alive and healthy. We are Certified Naturally Grown, meaning that
we use no harmful pesticides or herbicides, no genetically engineered seeds
or feed, and we actively care for our soil by adding compost, using cover crops,
and rotating our crops. |
