While we're primarily known for our vegetables and CSA, we also raise chickens and turkeys here on the farm.
Michigan fruit is also available in-season. Pasture-Raised beef from our family ranch in South Dakota is
available throughout the year, although the best availability is in early summer and late fall when the steers
have just been harvested. Take a look through the website to learn more about each product. Give us a call
or email if you have any questions or would like to place an order.
Certified Naturally Grown on our farm: Our vegetables and fields have been certified since 2008. We have
chosen not to be Certified Organic at this point because we are primarily a direct-market farm. Most of our
customers already know that we do things right, but in the event that someone doesn't, we are certified to
prove to you that we really do grow things the way nature intended. Unfortunately, we've learned that many
farmers at farmers' markets will tell inquisitive customers that they grow things all naturally but the
following week, they'll tell us that they use Round-Up or Sevin to control weeds and pests. If you really
want to know how your food is grown, it is important to know exactly what questions to ask OR purchase from
a certified farm.
The following description was taken from the Certified Naturally Grown website:
"Certified Naturally Grown is a non-profit organization offering certification programs for small-scale,
direct-market farmers using natural methods. The organization was founded when the National Organic Program
took effect in 2002, partly out of dissatisfaction with the direction the NOP was taking, but also in
the belief that we could create something uniquely valuable to small farmers and the communities they feed.
Our certification model encourages collaboration, transparency, and community involvement. Our programs
are based on the highest ideals of organic farming and the requirements are reasonable. Many farmers find
the peer-review inspection process a valuable learning experience.
CNG's Certification Standards take as their starting point the National Organic Program standards, but Certified
Naturally Grown is an independent program not affiliated with the NOP. CNG is nationally recognized and endorsed,
and it thrives because of enormous volunteer efforts and the commitment of the people who participate." |
